Proton e.MAS 7 Maintains No.1 EV Position with 5,811 Units Delivered

Eight consecutive months at the top as Proton launches dedicated EV plant in Tanjung Malim

Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), a subsidiary of PROTON, today announced that the Proton e.MAS 7 remains Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle, sustaining its No.1 position for the eighth consecutive month.

Between January and August 2025, a total of 5,811 units were delivered, comprising 5,455 local sales and 356 exports across four international markets. According to JPJ registration data, the e.MAS 7 now holds a commanding 24% market share, meaning nearly one in every four EVs sold in Malaysia is a Proton e.MAS 7.

Local Assembly Milestone: First Proton EV Plant in Malaysia

August 2025 also marked the official opening of PROTON’s first dedicated EV plant in Tanjung Malim, located within the Automotive High Technology Valley (AHTV).

Previously introduced as a CBU model from China, the Proton e.MAS 7 will soon transition to CKD local assembly, making it PROTON’s first locally assembled EV. The new plant has an initial capacity of 20,000 vehicles annually, scalable to 45,000 units as demand grows.

This strategic move strengthens Malaysia’s EV ecosystem by:

• Improving affordability and accessibility for consumers.
• Creating new high-skilled jobs.
• Expanding opportunities for local vendors in the EV supply chain.

The initiative also aligns with the Government’s vision to position Tanjung Malim as Malaysia’s EV hub, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasizing the importance of delivering a competitively priced Proton EV ahead of the ASEAN Summit in October 2025.
