Subang Jaya, 30 January 2026 – Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), a wholly owned subsidiary of PROTON, has successfully demonstrated the real-world long-range capability of the all-new Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, completing an epic 1,104.5km journey across Malaysia with just one full battery charge and one full tank of petrol and still finishing with 189km of range to spare.
Even more impressive, the drive delivered a combined fuel consumption figure of just 3.7L/100km, underlining the real-world efficiency of Proton’s next-generation plug-in hybrid system in actual Malaysian driving conditions.
Real Roads. Real Results.
The long-distance run kicked off in Penang, travelled down to Johor (723km), before heading back north to the PROTON Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam (381.5km). This wasn’t a lab test, it was real traffic, real highways, and real-world usage.

More than just a range milestone, the journey showcased how the e.MAS 7 PHEV blends EV-first driving with intelligent engine support to deliver smooth, efficient performance without range anxiety, whether you’re commuting daily or crossing states.
The entire 1,100km+ drive was also live-streamed over 25 hours on Proton e.MAS’ official social channels, giving Malaysians a front-row seat to see the PHEV in action in real time.
EM-i Advanced Hybrid Tech: The Brains Behind the Efficiency
Under the hood, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV runs PROTON’s EM-i Advanced Hybrid Technology, built on the GMA platform. The system integrates:
- A hybrid-dedicated Atkinson-cycle engine
- An 11-in-1 Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT)
- A Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery
Instead of a conventional gearbox, the 11-in-1 DHT manages power delivery seamlessly without traditional gear shifts, prioritising electric drive whenever possible. The petrol engine, with a thermal efficiency of 46.5%, steps in only when needed, maximising efficiency while keeping things quiet and smooth.
The system operates on an EV-first philosophy, allowing the e.MAS 7 PHEV to drive like an electric vehicle for up to 80% of the time. Drivers can select from three drive modes:
- Pure – Fully electric for urban driving
- Hybrid – Smart energy balancing for mixed use
- Power – Stronger response for overtaking and hills
Low Running Costs, High Everyday Practicality
As a dual-powered C-segment SUV, the e.MAS 7 PHEV delivers efficiency normally associated with much smaller cars:
- Fuel consumption: as low as 4.3L/100km
- Maintenance interval: once a year / every 15,000km
- Lower service costs compared to traditional ICE vehicles
It’s designed to be easy to live with efficient for daily use, capable for long-distance travel, and affordable to maintain.

📝 Writer’s Take
This isn’t just a numbers flex, it’s a proper real-world statement. 1,100km across Malaysia on one charge and one tank, at 3.7L/100km? That’s the kind of efficiency that actually means something to everyday drivers.
What Proton’s doing with the e.MAS 7 PHEV feels smart: EV-like driving for the city, petrol confidence for long trips, and none of the usual “can I make it?” anxiety. If this is the direction PROTON’s electrification game is heading, Malaysians are about to get some seriously practical new-energy options not just flashy tech, but stuff that actually works in our daily lives.
Quietly impressive. Very, very relevant.
