Petaling Jaya, 6 March 2026 – BYD Sime Motors is accelerating its electric mobility push in Malaysia with a rapid expansion of its retail and aftersales network, bringing the BYD ownership experience closer to customers across the country.
The brand now operates more than 40 showrooms nationwide, while plans are underway to establish 34 aftersales touchpoints by 2026 following the completion of nine additional service centres.
The expansion aims to improve accessibility to both sales and servicing facilities as EV adoption continues to grow in Malaysia.
Expanding Beyond Major Cities
BYD’s latest network expansion focuses on extending its presence beyond traditional urban centres.
Southern Region
New showrooms have been opened in Johor’s secondary cities:
- Muar
- Kluang
These join existing outlets to better serve EV buyers in the southern corridor.
East Coast Expansion
On the East Coast, BYD has launched a new outlet in:
- Kuala Terengganu
This complements existing facilities in:
- Kuantan
- Kota Bharu
The move reflects rising interest in electric vehicles outside the Klang Valley.
Northern Region Growth
The northern region has also seen significant development with new outlets in:
- Sungai Petani
- Juru
Meanwhile, the new Ipoh 3S Centre in Ipoh strengthens both sales and aftersales capabilities in the region.
Notably, the facility features the city’s first dedicated EV charging hub, equipped with 240kW and 180kW DC fast chargers.
Central Region: Urban Retail Experience
In the Klang Valley, the newly opened BYD Sri Hartamas 3S Centre introduces a different retail concept.
Located inside a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, the facility integrates sales, service and spare parts under one roof, allowing customers to conveniently combine vehicle servicing with everyday activities.
Strengthening Ownership Confidence
Beyond showrooms and service centres, BYD’s Malaysian network currently includes 12 Body & Paint outlets, providing repair support and improving long-term ownership confidence.
These investments aim to address common EV concerns such as service accessibility and parts availability.
Support for owners is also strengthened by:
- 80 EV-certified technicians trained at the BYD Academy
- A centralised parts warehouse for faster spare parts supply
- Improved service transparency and shorter waiting times
BYD’s Rapid Growth in Malaysia
BYD’s network expansion comes alongside strong sales growth in the Malaysian market.
In 2025, the company delivered 14,407 vehicles, representing a 68% increase compared with 2024.
Other milestones include:
- First 10,000 customers achieved in 20 months
- Next 10,000 customers reached in just 13 months
- Ranked Malaysia’s 6th best-selling car brand overall in 2025
- No.4 non-national automotive brand
The company is now on track to reach 30,000 Malaysian customers by April 2026.
Upcoming Flagship Showroom
Later in 2026, BYD Sime Motors will launch BYD Mansion Macalister in Penang.
The flagship showroom will incorporate local cultural elements into its architectural design, creating a premium retail environment that reflects both BYD’s global identity and local Malaysian communities.
The concept may also be rolled out to other future showrooms.
Leadership Perspective
According to Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia:
“A comprehensive network allows BYD to provide robust support throughout the ownership lifecycle as well as greater resale confidence.”
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Gan noted that Malaysia’s EV adoption is accelerating as consumers increasingly embrace sustainable mobility solutions.
Writer’s Take
If there’s one thing EV buyers worry about, it’s after-sales support.
BYD seems to understand that clearly because instead of just launching new models, they’re aggressively building the infrastructure behind EV ownership.
40+ showrooms, 30+ service points, EV-certified technicians, charging hubs… that’s the kind of ecosystem that actually convinces people to switch from ICE cars.
The sales numbers also tell an interesting story. Jumping to the 6th best-selling car brand in Malaysia in 2025 is no small achievement, especially for a relatively new player in the market.
If the expansion continues at this pace, BYD could realistically challenge some established non-national brands in the next few years.
And for Malaysia’s EV scene overall? More competition usually means better choices for buyers.
