Kuala Lumpur, 26 August 2026 – PROTON is showcasing the technologies shaping its next phase of growth at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo 2026 (GATE 2026), offering visitors an integrated look at the national carmaker’s progress in electrification, intelligent vehicles and connected mobility.
Held from 26 to 28 August 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), GATE 2026 brings together policymakers, manufacturers, technology companies, suppliers and research organisations to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional automotive technology hub.
As a platinum sponsor, PROTON is supporting the event while showcasing technologies developed and adopted across its expanding mobility ecosystem.
Under the theme “PROTON ADVANCES. MALAYSIA MOVES FORWARD”, the centrepiece of PROTON’s booth is its hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) technology, framed by an LED infinity tunnel representing the company’s continued journey towards smarter and more sustainable mobility.
“PROTON has changed significantly since our partnership with Geely began. We have renewed our model range, strengthened engineering and manufacturing, developed new energy vehicle capabilities and brought more advanced technology to Malaysian consumers. GATE 2026 allows us to show that progress through the systems behind our vehicles, not only the vehicles themselves,” said Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.
Five Technologies, One Connected Story
Visitors to the PROTON booth can explore five key technology areas demonstrating how different systems work together to enhance vehicle performance, safety, connectivity and the overall ownership experience.
HEV Technology
PROTON is highlighting its growing electrification capabilities and the technologies supporting its transition towards lower-emission mobility.
Electrical and Electronic Architecture
The company is also showcasing its Electrical and Electronic Architecture (EEA), which forms the foundation for vehicle systems to communicate with one another while enabling the integration of increasingly intelligent vehicle functions.
1.5-litre i-GT Engine
The 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine represents PROTON’s latest generation of efficient powertrain technology and is already available to customers in the Proton X50.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
PROTON’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) demonstrate how vehicle sensing, alerts and driver-support functions can contribute towards safer and more confident driving.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The final technology area focuses on infotainment and connectivity solutions developed with ACO Tech, delivering more intuitive, localised and connected in-car experiences.
Strong Business Momentum
PROTON’s technology transformation has also been reflected in its recent business performance.
In 2025, PROTON sold 157,976 vehicles, while exports reached 6,000 units, marking the company’s highest annual export volume since 2012.
Momentum has continued into 2026, with sales for the first seven months reaching 118,788 units, representing a 38.7% increase compared with the corresponding period last year.
This included 21,808 Proton e.MAS vehicles, led by the Proton e.MAS 5, which PROTON identifies as Malaysia’s best-selling EV, and the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, described as the country’s leading plug-in hybrid.
“These results demonstrate why continued investment in technology matters. New capabilities help us produce better vehicles, serve more customers and create opportunities for Malaysian engineers, vendors and technology partners. They also strengthen Malaysia’s ability to compete as a regional centre for advanced automotive manufacturing,” added Abdul Rashid Musa.
PROTON Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Manufacturing
Beyond vehicle technology, PROTON is also highlighting its efforts to improve energy efficiency across its manufacturing operations.
During the GATE 2026 opening programme, PROTON will mark its achievement of ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management Systems certification, awarded by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
PROTON is the first passenger vehicle manufacturer in Malaysia to receive the certification, which provides a structured framework for monitoring, controlling and continuously improving energy performance across its manufacturing operations.
The system supports PROTON’s target of improving energy efficiency by 2% annually.
At its Tanjung Malim manufacturing facility, initiatives supporting this target include solar photovoltaic generation, energy digitalisation and real-time monitoring, LED lighting upgrades and optimisation of major production systems.
As of December 2025, the plant’s solar energy array had reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 48,453 tonnes.
Building Malaysia’s Automotive Technology Ecosystem
PROTON’s participation at GATE 2026 also continues its strategic engagement with local technology and research organisations.
The company previously exchanged collaboration documents with the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) covering areas including shared testing facilities, the National Automotive Test Centre, and structured development exposure for PROTON’s R&D personnel.
Through its GATE 2026 showcase, PROTON is positioning its latest technology developments as part of a broader transformation. Combining electrification, intelligent vehicle systems, connectivity and sustainable manufacturing as it continues to expand its role within Malaysia’s automotive industry.
