Kuala Lumpur, 13 July 2026 – Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially unveiled the all-new Volkswagen Tayron, introducing a new seven-seat SUV positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg in the brand’s local lineup. Locally assembled in Pekan, the Tayron is offered in two variants – the Elegance and the sportier R-Line.
The Volkswagen Tayron Elegance is priced from RM189,890, while the Tayron R-Line is currently being previewed with an estimated price range of RM259,000 to RM269,000. The first 69 customers will also receive a special Merdeka package that includes seven years of free maintenance, complimentary personal accident and car key coverage, as well as a chance to win a luxury 3D/2N getaway.
Two Variants, Two Different Personalities
Volkswagen has developed the Tayron to cater to different customer needs. The Elegance variant focuses on comfort, efficiency and practicality, powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid engine producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque. The powertrain is supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus), helping to improve fuel efficiency and driving refinement.
For those seeking stronger performance, the Tayron R-Line comes equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine delivering 265PS and 400Nm of torque, paired with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system for enhanced grip and confidence in various driving conditions.
Both variants are paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and feature Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), which continuously adapts the suspension to balance comfort and handling.
Contemporary Design With Strong SUV Presence
The new Tayron adopts Volkswagen’s latest SUV design language, featuring a bold front fascia, sculpted bonnet and a long roofline that emphasises its premium positioning. Both variants receive illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear, while each model carries its own distinct styling cues.
The Elegance features LED Plus headlights and unique Elegance styling elements, while the R-Line upgrades to IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlights, dynamic rear turn signals and sportier exterior trim.

Spacious Seven-Seater Cabin
Inside, the Tayron offers a flexible seven-seat layout with up to 1,905 litres of luggage space when the second and third rows are folded. The SUV features split-folding second and third-row seats, allowing owners to easily adapt between passenger and cargo-carrying duties.
Comfort is enhanced through Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front seats with 12-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and a 10-air-cushion massage function. Audio duties are handled by an 8-speaker sound system in the Elegance, while the R-Line receives a premium Harman Kardon setup with 700 watts of output.
Advanced Digital Experience
Volkswagen has equipped the Tayron with its latest-generation digital ecosystem. Both variants feature a multifunction sports steering wheel, steering-column-mounted gear selector and a new centre console rotary controller for quick access to vehicle functions.
The Elegance receives a 12.9-inch Discover infotainment display, while the R-Line upgrades to a larger 15-inch Discover Pro Max system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, alongside the IDA voice assistant and a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro digital instrument cluster. The R-Line further adds a head-up display.
Five-Star Safety Standard
Safety remains a major focus for the new Tayron, which has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The SUV is equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, Park Assist Plus and Emergency Assist.
The Tayron also comes with nine airbags, including a front-centre airbag designed to reduce occupant-to-occupant contact during side impacts, as well as a Driver Attention Monitor system.
