e:HEV Technology Takes Centre Stage with New S+ Shift System Debut
Petaling Jaya, 1 April 2026 – Honda Malaysia has reinforced its position in electrified mobility with the launch of its “Hybrid Done Right” campaign, highlighting the strengths of its e:HEV technology in delivering performance, efficiency and long-term reliability.
Running from 1 April to 30 June 2026, the campaign also coincides with the preview of the Honda Prelude, with bookings now open ahead of its expected Q2 2026 launch.
What “Hybrid Done Right” Actually Means
At the core of Honda’s strategy is its e:HEV hybrid system, developed over more than two decades.
Unlike conventional hybrids, Honda’s system intelligently switches between:
- EV Drive (pure electric)
- Hybrid Drive (engine generates electricity)
- Engine Drive (direct petrol power at higher speeds)
This allows the car to optimise efficiency without sacrificing driving feel, which has always been a key part of Honda’s DNA.
According to Narushi Yazaki, Managing Director and CEO of Honda Malaysia:
“Electrification should not compromise driving enjoyment. Our e:HEV system is engineered to deliver a smooth yet responsive drive.”
Hybrid Line-Up Across the Range
Honda’s hybrid presence in Malaysia is already well established, with e:HEV available across multiple segments:
- Honda City e:HEV
- Honda City Hatchback e:HEV
- Honda HR-V e:HEV
- Honda Civic e:HEV
- Honda CR-V e:HEV
This wide coverage reinforces Honda’s strategy of making hybrid technology accessible across different price points and segments.

All-New Prelude Returns as Hybrid Sports Coupe
A Modern Revival of an Icon

6
One of the biggest highlights is the return of the Prelude nameplate, now reborn as a hybrid sports coupe.
The new Honda Prelude becomes:
- Honda Malaysia’s first e:HEV sports coupe
- A showcase of the brand’s most advanced hybrid tech
Powertrain:
- 2.0L e:HEV system
- 184 PS and 315 Nm
- Instant torque with linear acceleration
New S+ Shift Technology Debuts
The All-New Prelude also introduces S+ Shift technology for the first time in Honda Malaysia’s lineup.
This system:
- Simulates gear shifts for a more engaging drive
- Works with Active Sound Control
- Enhances throttle response and driver feedback
It basically solves one of the biggest complaints about hybrids —
“too smooth, not engaging” — by adding back a more sporty driving sensation.
Sporty Design Meets Functional Aerodynamics
The new Prelude features a sleek, coupe-like silhouette with sporty proportions:
- Length: 4,522 mm
- Width: 1,880 mm
- Height: 1,355 mm
Key design highlights include:
- Smooth roofline with laser brazing
- Flush door handles
- Black chrome grille with blue accents
- LED lighting system
- 19-inch wheels with Brembo brakes
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety remains a priority, with the Prelude equipped with:
- Honda SENSING suite
- Blind Spot Information (BSI)
- Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM)
These features ensure a balance between performance and everyday usability.
Writer’s Take
Honda’s angle here is actually very clear, they’re not trying to win the EV race yet… they’re doubling down on hybrids done properly.
And honestly, that’s very on-brand.
While some competitors are going full EV or pushing basic hybrids, Honda is focusing on making hybrids feel fun again, not just efficient.
The real headline here is the Prelude.
A hybrid sports coupe with simulated gear shifts and proper driver engagement? That’s Honda trying to prove that electrification doesn’t have to be boring.
If they price it right, this could be a halo car for Honda Malaysia. Not a volume seller, but something that pulls people into showrooms.
And big picture?
Honda is basically saying:
“We’re not rushing. We’re refining.”
And that might actually be the smarter play in Malaysia right now.
