Subang Jaya, 13 May 2026 – PRO-NET has announced a major milestone for the national EV brand, with more than 20,000 Proton e.MAS vehicles now on Malaysian roads.
The achievement further strengthens Proton e.MAS’ position within Malaysia’s rapidly growing electrified vehicle market, while also highlighting how quickly local buyers are embracing EV and plug-in hybrid mobility solutions.
e.MAS 7 PHEV Leads Malaysia’s PHEV Segment
Driving much of the momentum is the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, which has officially emerged as Malaysia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in 2026 year-to-date.

Since launching earlier this year, the model has already:
- Recorded 1,755 registered units in 2026 YTD
- Collected over 6,500 bookings
- Achieved 1,013 registrations in April alone
The strong response suggests Malaysian buyers are increasingly warming up to plug-in hybrid technology, especially as a transition point between conventional combustion vehicles and fully electric cars.
Over 20,000 Registrations Across The Lineup
Overall, the Proton e.MAS lineup has now achieved:
- 20,509 cumulative registrations in 2026
- 10,067 units of the e.MAS 7
- 8,687 units of the e.MAS 5
April 2026 alone contributed:
- 3,421 total registrations
- 1,772 units of the e.MAS 5
- 636 units of the e.MAS 7
According to Zhang Qiang, the milestone reflects growing customer confidence not only in Proton e.MAS products, but also in Malaysia’s broader electrified mobility shift.
Expanding EV Ecosystem Nationwide
As the number of Proton e.MAS vehicles on Malaysian roads continues to grow, PRO-NET says it is also rapidly expanding its supporting ecosystem to improve ownership confidence.
Currently, the network includes:
- 53 dealer operations nationwide
- 10 body and paint centres
- Nearly 40 expanding 3S centres
The company is also continuing to strengthen aftersales support, technical readiness and charging accessibility as EV adoption increases across the country.
Writer’s Take
Honestly, the most important thing here isn’t even the 20,000-unit milestone itself. It’s how quickly Proton e.MAS has managed to normalise electrified vehicles among mainstream Malaysian buyers.
A few years ago, EVs and PHEVs still felt niche, expensive and somewhat intimidating for the average buyer. But Proton entering the market changes the conversation completely because Malaysians already understand the brand, trust the dealer network and know service centres are widely available.
The really interesting part is the success of the e.MAS 7 PHEV. That tells us many Malaysians still want electrification, but without fully committing to charging-only ownership just yet. In many ways, PHEVs are becoming the “comfort zone” bridge between ICE and full EVs.
What PRO-NET now needs to do is maintain ownership confidence long-term. Hitting 20,000 units is impressive, but sustaining customer satisfaction through aftersales support, battery confidence and charging convenience will determine whether Proton e.MAS becomes a temporary success story or a genuine long-term market leader in Malaysia’s EV era.
