The Story
Honda Malaysia has officially launched the all-new Honda Prelude at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026, marking the return of one of the brand’s most iconic nameplates after years of absence.
Developed under Honda’s “Unlimited Glide” concept, the sixth-generation Prelude combines sporty driving characteristics with premium comfort and practicality, positioning itself as a modern hybrid grand tourer.
According to Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Narushi Yazaki, the Prelude represents the next step in Honda’s electrification journey while maintaining the driving enjoyment that has long been associated with the brand.

Powering the new Prelude is Honda’s latest 2.0-litre e:HEV hybrid powertrain, delivering 184PS and 315Nm of torque. The system is designed to provide strong acceleration, smooth power delivery and impressive fuel efficiency while maintaining the engaging driving characteristics expected from a coupe bearing the Prelude name.
A major highlight is the debut of Honda’s S+ Shift Technology, making the Prelude the first model in Honda Malaysia’s lineup to receive the feature. The innovative system precisely controls engine RPM during acceleration and deceleration, creating a more direct and responsive driving experience. By integrating Active Sound Control (ASC) and dynamic visual feedback through the instrument cluster, S+ Shift aims to simulate the sensation of conventional gear changes while retaining the benefits of hybrid propulsion.
Drivers can choose between three distinct driving modes: Sport, GT and Comfort. Sport mode sharpens vehicle responses and handling characteristics, GT mode balances performance with long-distance comfort, while Comfort mode prioritises refinement and ease of driving. An Individual mode also allows drivers to customise various settings including steering, suspension, powertrain response and sound characteristics.
The Prelude also introduces Coasting Control Operation, a first for Honda. The system allows smoother deceleration, reducing the need for frequent transitions between the accelerator and brake pedals during everyday driving.
Underpinning the vehicle is a chassis package inspired by the Civic Type R, featuring a dual-axis strut front suspension setup and Adaptive Damper System. Honda says these technologies improve steering precision, cornering stability and overall driver confidence.
Visually, the new Prelude adopts a sleek fastback silhouette inspired by the graceful motion of a glider. Exterior highlights include a Black Chrome grille, flush door handles, LED lighting elements and distinctive blue accents integrated into the front and rear bumpers. Completing the sporty appearance are 19-inch alloy wheels paired with blue Brembo brake calipers.
Inside, the cabin adopts Honda’s new “Gliding Cockpit” design philosophy, focusing on driver engagement while maintaining passenger comfort. The driver and passenger seats have been specifically designed with different objectives, with the driver’s seat prioritising support and control while the passenger seat focuses on comfort and accessibility.
Technology features include a 9-inch Advanced Display Audio system with Google Built-in, providing access to Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play services. A Bose premium audio system further enhances the cabin experience.
Despite its sporty coupe proportions, Honda says the Prelude remains practical enough for daily use, offering luggage space capable of accommodating two medium-sized suitcases.
Safety remains a key focus, with the model equipped with the full Honda SENSING suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

Verdict
The all-new Prelude is not trying to be a Civic Type R replacement, nor is it attempting to be the fastest sports coupe on sale. Instead, Honda has created a unique proposition that blends electrification with driver engagement, wrapped in a stylish grand touring package. At RM278,000, it enters a niche segment, but for enthusiasts seeking something different from the usual performance sedan or SUV, the Prelude could be one of the most intriguing launches of KLIMS 2026. 🚗⚡
