SUBANG JAYA, 8 October 2026 – Six years after making its debut in Malaysia, the PROTON X50 is celebrating the milestone with a sportier new look as PROTON opens bookings for the All-New PROTON X50 Sport Edition (SE).
Based on the flagship variant, the new Sport Edition introduces 15 exclusive exterior and interior enhancements, giving the popular B-segment SUV a more distinctive appearance while retaining the performance, technology and safety features that have helped establish its reputation in the Malaysian market.
Since its introduction on 27 October 2020, the PROTON X50 has recorded more than 177,000 units in cumulative domestic and export sales. The model has also maintained its position as Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV for five consecutive years, making it one of the brand’s most successful SUV offerings.
According to PROTON Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa, the Sport Edition represents the model’s continued evolution in response to changing customer expectations.
The latest edition aims to give customers a more expressive styling option without moving away from the qualities that have defined the X50 since its launch.
A Sportier Look Inside and Out

The most noticeable changes to the PROTON X50 Sport Edition can be found in its exterior styling, which combines predominantly black elements with contrasting red accents.
Among the additions:
- Black front upper garnish
- Front side port trim garnish
- Lower bumper garnish
- Rear side port trim garnish.
- black 18-inch alloy wheels
- Dedicated front, side and rear skirtings
- Exclusive Sport Edition emblem

Inside, the sporty theme continues with a black interior complemented by red stitching on the steering wheel and seats. The front seats feature Sport Edition embroidery, while matching floor detailing and TPE floor mats complete the updated cabin.

The TPE floor mats are designed with everyday Malaysian driving conditions in mind. Their lightweight, flexible and quick-drying properties make them practical for a climate characterised by frequent rain and high humidity.
Tested for Malaysian Driving Conditions

Beyond its visual upgrades, PROTON says the Sport Edition’s new components have undergone extensive testing to assess their durability and suitability for local conditions.
The enhancements have been subjected to more than 13,700 hours of testing, covering durability, corrosion resistance, UV resistance and performance in Malaysia’s tropical climate.
The testing is intended to ensure that the special-edition components can withstand prolonged exposure to everyday driving conditions while maintaining their appearance and functionality.
Performance and Technology Remain Familiar

Under the refreshed styling, the PROTON X50 Sport Edition retains the mechanical package of the flagship variant.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder i-GT turbocharged petrol engine paired with a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The powertrain produces 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
PROTON also quotes a fuel consumption figure of 6.1 litres per 100 km, positioning the X50 as an option for both urban commuting and longer-distance travel.
Technology features include:
- 14.6-inch infotainment head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto connectivity, PROTON Link 2.0
- The ‘Hi PROTON’ voice command system, which supports Bahasa Melayu and English
- Safety equipment remains a key part of the package, with 15 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features.
- Auto Park Assist (APA)
- A 360-degree HD camera with 180-degree Transparent View, alongside other driver-assistance functions designed to build confidence behind the wheel.
